Who are the Friends of the Amador County Libraries?

The organization of the Friends was formed in 1953 and is dedicated to support the goals and services of free libraries in the United States and specifically the library system of Amador County.

How does one join and become a Friend?

An individual, family group or even an organization can be a member by paying an annual fee. For information contact the main library in Jackson or one of the branches. Be a Friend !! Call: 223-6400.

Where are the Libraries Located?

The Amador County Library system was initially established in a small building on the hill in Jackson in 1920. Now, the main Library is at 530 Sutter Street in Jackson, and was built in 1965. The branch libraries in the County are located in Ione, Pioneer, Plymouth, Amador City, and Sutter Creek.

How do the Friends assist the library system in keeping pace with the ever-increasing demands of library services due to our present technological influences?

Members of the Friends assist by organizing fund raising events, such as the Annual book Sale and by actively promoting gift giving, such a memorials, estate sales, donations, group contributions and dues from memberships.
Book Sales are held every two months on the first Saturday of the month - 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Main Library in Jackson.

What specifically do the Libraries offer its patrons, from toddler to senior citizens, which the friends support?

The library is one of the few free services, available to all families. One only needs to walk in the door to take advantage of the information available. Information is stored in many ways: by books, tapes, audio-visual materials and computers. Numerous offerings in the form of magazines, pamphlets are available for pleasure and continuous life long learning.

Therefore it is a privilege to be a Friend: to have a small part in promoting the cultural, recreational and life long learning for which purposes, libraries exist!

FACL Officers and Board of Directors meet every 3rd Thursday of the month at the Main Library in Jackson at 9:00 a.m. (except for July and August). The FACL Bulletin is published every two months and can be obtained at any of the Amador County Library branches.
